Second Life Grid Status Reports

Contact Us

Tuesday, February 19, 2008 @ The Alpha and The Omega
Since ancient history, people had believed that God created the world and He is the First and the Last; the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. Yet today, people had created another world of their own, which they do not breathe in, but live. A Second Life.

In the remote planet of Earth, on an island, we found the place we would like to hold our NUS stronghold. A group of enterprising students and staff, known as the RidgeCats, had engineered a new Second Life for the citizens of NUS.

In December 2007 A.C., we started from a no-man’s island(see left pic), vast land, vast sea… But things started to change from the day we cast a plan on the island. Since the day we lay the first brick, with the blessings of many, the island had gone through a magical evolution.

Every stone and brick you see was built from scratch and raised from a basic 3D prim in Second Life(see right pic). The island soon fills itself with the all-time marvel and creation of man-kind. In the virtual world, we were able to supercede what we could not have created in real-life. By 31 January 2008 A.C., within a short one month, the first mega structure stands on our island, the University Hall.

More structures and mega structures to follow... The thing about us in Second Life is, we are building and always building, so do come back often and you'll see more new stuff coming up all the time! Hope to see you guys inworld soon!

Saturday, February 2, 2008 @ Greetings, Everyone!
Finally, NUS Second Life is here... Against all odds, we have made it! We will be virtualising the NUS community into the 3D platform, Second Life. We have recently acquired 4 amazing islands on the education grid and are neighbours with Princeton and University of Edinburgh. These 2 are well known, aggressive strong players in the Education Grid, especially Princeton who owns a 9 grid space, right below us. University of Edinburgh, another well-established University here also has several impressive infrastructures that is captivating and highly interactive. However, they are both pretty much ghost towns, no sign of any student life nor activities, not even educators are in there. They would make good case studies for us to learn, so that we can ensure the NUS community will thrive and successfully harness the NUS Second Life as another channel of campus virtual communities. This is too exciting as we go into planning and brainstormings with the other RidgeCats and developers as we beging building the NUS Second Life! Woo Hoo!
