Wednesday, August 5, 2009 @ Much Ado About Bidding~
Hey there everyone! I'm Zelleth, in my third year at Arts! I haven't been on SL very long but I can tell you the people in the NUS sims are really nice~
So we're all almost midway through module bidding! If you've got all your modules then you're all set, but for those who don't, fret not. There's still plenty of time.
Here are a few random words of advice gathered over the years:
- If you're a freshie and you've done the QET and it turns out you need to sit for EA1101, try to build your schedule around that module (tutorial balloting for it happens in Iteration 1!). Taking it and five other modules is doable, and once you're done with it you will be able to take modules that require you to clear it!
- Try to plan a schedule that's a compromise between the modules you want to take (to spice up your weeks), need to take and with timings that fit. For example, here's how you can plan your schedule: List down all the modules that appeal to you. Next, list down all the ones you really need to take (core modules for example. The faster you clear them the better in some cases.).
From here, decide what kind of schedule you'd like. Do you want one with more free days? Or do you not mind coming down to school everyday, as long as you finish by 3? Depending on what you chose, lay down your timetable by first slotting in your lectures (You could use the timetable builder in CORS or you could draw up an Excel sheet for example.) and then placing your preferred tutorials in. Remember to slot in more than one tutorial timing just in case you don't get the first.
- Don't be afraid about not getting enough modules! If you end all the bidding rounds with less than the number of modules you'd like to take, you can always approach your faculty or department and they'll help you out.
- Lastly, don't worry about messing up. If this is your first semester and the first time you're bidding for modules, you're in the same boat as the rest of your friends. Don't be afraid to take the modules you want to take and even if you can't get them, you can always wait till next semester. Some modules go for 500 over points in the first semester then only for 1 in the next because the vacancies will exceed the demand so simply bide your time and you'll get it eventually.
If you have any questions, feel free to pop in world and seek one of the seniors out! And do catch the video Silva caught of Peng giving his talk! =D
Over and out~
