It's the World Cup Season again!
FIFA WORLD CUP 2010 officially kicked off yesterday in JOHANNESBURG starting with the opening match between South Africa and Mexico.
To be honest, I can't fathom the sport. I don't see the attractiveness of it that makes World Cup the most widely watched sporting event other than the Olympics. To me, it's just watching "22 men chasing after the soccer ball". However, after watching yesterday's opening match, I have to admit, it's not really THAT BORING even if you don't know the technicalities of the match like me.
When we talk about football, much emphasis was placed on the strikers, for they are principally responsible for scoring the goal. And it's said to be the most demanding position in football. However, I find it rather interesting to watch the goalkeepers instead. If striker is the most demanding position, then i think goalkeeper is the most stressful position. If the goal went in, the goalkeeper's "head will roll like the ball".
As other people's eyes were fixed on the ball, I glued mine to the goalkeepers. I find it amusing to watch the South African goalkeeper (the one in red jersey). First, he used his whole body to block the ball, then he plunges in to catch the ball and hold it tightly in his arms as if it's something so precious to him (well, considering that the Official Match Ball Jabulani cost S$199, it's quite of value).
With the 1-1 result of yesterday's match, I hope both goalkeepers' heads are alright... ^_^
The World Cup Fever had not just spread across the globe, but also through Second Life...
Which country are YOU rooting for? I stand on neutral ground. *PEACE* =)
Anyone game for a SL football match? ^_^
